There are times when gratitude doesn’t come easily: getting stung with a parking fine, being ghosted by the person you were supposed to be dating, missing a flight, an unexpected redundancy, a catastrophic miscommunication with a friend, tripping over a kerb and spilling coffee all over yourself. Those days when you wish you hadn’t got out of bed, when you get stuck focusing on the things that aren’t working: it can be so limiting. In the words of Oprah, ‘There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.’ Look for the silver lining. Even if it’s just a faint glimmer. I like to tune into what the situation is teaching me or consider the other opportunity it’s creating: it’s often a detour in a better direction. By shifting your perspective to the positive side of things, you’re likely to find hope that there’s a solution and act on it. That’s where the magic really happens. Sometimes we need hindsight to realize it.
